So Now What?
I’ve decided to kick off this blog with a series on the things you need when you get your first place. It doesn’t matter if it is an apartment or a house. There are some things you’re going to find that you need, and you don’t want to be that person that realizes you need it at 230 in the morning and then you must brave your local WalMart. Have you seen the people of WalMart at 230 AM?
The first thing you’ll want to do is make the space your own. We’ll get to that, but let’s get started with the more conventional things you should purchase.
The very first thing you should do is make copies of your key(s). I always gave one to someone I trust, one went in my glovebox, one in the file cabinet at my office and one for my car keys. You’re thinking you don’t need to do this because there is no way you will ever lose your keys. As the adultier adult here I am telling you that whether you lose them in a bar bathroom or catch a ride with a friend one day and leave them somewhere, you will need a copy at some point in time. This is a mistake I have made that you can learn from.
In the age of covid we aren’t wasting a trip to the store for just some copies of your key! Check the wattage and type of lightbulb in all your light fixtures (take pics if you need to) and purchase some replacements. You don’t want to have to use your cellphone light to take a shower!
Personally, when I was on a tight budget, I bought whatever was cheapest for every room. Now, I purchase 60-Watt Equivalent G25 Halogen Clear Decorative Globe Light Bulbs in packs of 3 for the bathroom vanities. Other rooms I go for whatever fits because I live in a house that has 4 fixtures that require special bulbs. I don’t really set the mood for anything with the built-in light fixtures (lots of ppl do), instead I use lamps and candles.
Now that we have keys and proper lighting my next post or 2 will cover economical cleaning supplies.
